There are articles all over about how to make money blogging. Some make a strong case. Who wouldn’t want to share their story and make money while doing it? No clocking in, no sitting in traffic, no answering to the powers that be. Just you and your computer and your thoughts. Even while it takes time for your blog to grow, you can immediately begin to monetize by adding in ads and affiliate links. Stay with it grow your audience, and you may be able to start building lucrative brand partnerships.

I started blogging back in 2010. I was a passionate beauty blogger, and the name of my first blog was “Beyond the Kink.” It then changed to “Cosmetically-Challenged”. Once I realized that I wanted to talk about more than the latest lipstick shades I successfully rebranded as “Being Melody,” a lifestyle blog at the end of 2014 which provided me with the ability to work with some of my favorite brands and make great money while doing it.
Yes, my blog was and still is a success story. However, I’m going to tell you something that a lot of other bloggers don’t. THAT THANG WASN’T CHEAP!
Blogging is expensive! Not only does it cost you a lot of time, but can end up costing a good deal of money until you get to a point where you’re out earning what you’re spending.
Between hosting packages, monthly subscription services, memberships, contractors, supplies, photography equipment, fees, etc. It can easily cost upwards of $450+/ month to maintain your site.
I’m one of those bloggers that won’t pay for something unless I really see a value in it. I’m always wondering what’s going to be the return on my investment (ROI) because my coins are precious and I don’t just give them to anybody (anymore)(cough).
